Scripps Mercy Hospital

Scripps Mercy Hospital, located in central San Diego, is one of the busiest hospitals in California and expects trauma room visits to increase more than 20% in the next 15 years. To meet the growing demand, Scripps Mercy is in the midst of expanding its facilities and modernizing its equipment. The Price Family Charitable Fund made a major donation to support the expansion.

The expansion includes increasing the emergency room bed capacity from 27 to 43 and adding a fourth trauma bay. The three intensive care units will expand and modernize and the two operating rooms will become robotic surgical suites, equipped with the most advanced technology.

Scripps Mercy serves a critical need to the residents of south San Diego as the only trauma center south of Interstate 8 with a level one designation for the most serious cases. Coupled with its sister campus in Chula Vista, it serves nearly one million people. It receives more than 51,000 emergency room visits and 2,500 trauma patients annually.

The hospital is regularly named one of the best 50 best hospitals in the nation and serves as a private teaching hospital for medical students at UCSD and the Naval Medical Center San Diego.
